Finally Got to Drive the Xiaomi SU7 Electric Car

It’s not easy to pick up such a popular car with so much hype around it.

Here’s my summary: It’s positioned as a sporty family car. The mechanical quality and smart features are very strong, but the seat comfort is really poor.

Mechanical quality: Whether it’s the materials used in the chassis or the tuning, both are excellent. The chassis tuning in particular is surprisingly good—it doesn’t feel like the company’s first-ever car.

Smart features: Voice control, assisted driving, etc. all score highly. Personally, I think it’s second only to Huawei’s system. That said, I think voice control could still be improved a bit. Since Xiaomi comes from a consumer electronics background, it should be able to aim higher. Also, if you use a Xiaomi phone or Xiaomi smart home products, the ecosystem experience is genuinely nice.

Storage space: There’s plenty of it—front and rear trunks, plus lots of spots inside the cabin have been utilized. Very convenient for keeping things within reach, which is great.

Comfort: The seat comfort is really bad! Ergonomics aren’t good—the seat height is too high, the cushion is too short, the angle is too flat, and lumbar support is lacking. As a result, after just 30 minutes, your waist and legs start to feel tired. A few of my friends gave the same feedback, and none of them—from 165 cm to 190 cm in height—found the seats comfortable.

Other details: Some things could also be improved. For example, the steering wheel materials could be nicer, and the phone mount and screen buttons could feel better (right now they’re too plasticky and a bit cheap).

Hopefully Xiaomi’s second car will address some of these shortcomings. I heard they’re launching the SU8 SUV version in 2025? Something to look forward to!

I finally had the chance to test drive the Xiaomi SU7, and honestly, I’m impressed. The handling feels solid, and the suspension tuning is way better than I expected from a first-generation model. You can sense that Xiaomi really invested time in the driving dynamics. The acceleration is smooth and responsive, making it fun to drive both in the city and on open roads. The tech features are another highlight—voice control works almost flawlessly, and the smart integration with my Xiaomi phone is seamless. Storage space is more than enough, and I loved the dual trunk setup. The only weak point for me was the seat comfort, which feels a bit stiff during longer rides. Still, as a package, this EV shows Xiaomi is serious about competing. For a new player, this is a strong entry and makes me curious about what they’ll do with future models.

The Xiaomi SU7 surprised me in a good way. I was worried that a company known for electronics might struggle with car design, but the mechanical quality is really strong. The chassis feels sturdy, and the car gives you confidence even on sharp turns. I also loved the infotainment system—probably the most intuitive I’ve used in an EV so far. The voice assistant still has room for improvement, but it’s already ahead of most mainstream brands. Interior space management is clever, and I could easily fit weekend bags in both trunks. For everyday errands, the storage inside the cabin is very handy. Comfort is not perfect, as the seats could use better lumbar support, but I’ve driven other cars with worse. Overall, I think Xiaomi nailed the balance between sporty performance and family practicality.

As a tech enthusiast, what sold me on the Xiaomi SU7 was its smart ecosystem. I already use a Xiaomi phone and some smart home devices, and the car integrates beautifully with them. For example, I can set my home AC from inside the car with one command. That’s futuristic convenience. On the driving side, I was impressed by the responsiveness of the steering and the chassis balance. Xiaomi clearly paid attention to the sporty positioning. The car feels agile but stable, which is not easy to achieve in a new EV. The cabin design is minimalist but practical, with lots of small storage options. Yes, the seats aren’t the most comfortable, but I’m willing to overlook that because the driving and tech experience are fantastic. I can see this becoming a popular choice for younger buyers.

Xiaomi SU7 is a game-changer! The mechanical build quality impressed me—the materials and tuning feel premium. The tech features are seamless, especially if you’re already in the Xiaomi ecosystem. Voice commands and assisted driving work flawlessly. Storage is abundant, with clever use of space throughout the cabin. My only gripe is the seat comfort; it’s not ideal for long trips. But for a first attempt, Xiaomi nailed it. Can’t wait to see the SU8!

As an EV lover, I’m thrilled with my SU7. The driving dynamics are exceptional—firm yet comfortable ride, precise steering. The tech suite is impressive; voice control is smart, and assisted driving adds convenience. The storage options are practical, making daily use effortless. The seats, though, need better ergonomics. Despite this, the SU7 offers great value. Xiaomi’s entry into the EV market is strong, and I’m optimistic about their future models.

  6. Road

I took the Xiaomi SU7 on a weekend road trip, and it was a solid performer. The range is more than enough for highway driving, and charging wasn’t an issue since the fast-charging network supported it well. What impressed me most was how quiet the cabin stayed even at higher speeds—the sound insulation is much better than I expected. Storage was also a highlight; we packed camping gear, food, and small luggage without running out of space. The suspension feels tuned for sportiness but still absorbs bumps decently. The only letdown was seat comfort after two hours; I had to take a break. That said, I appreciate Xiaomi’s first effort. For a new automaker, delivering this level of refinement in both driving and technology is remarkable. I’d say it’s one of the best EVs I’ve tried under this price point.

What surprised me most about the Xiaomi SU7 is how confident it feels on the road. I was expecting some rough edges since it’s Xiaomi’s first car, but the suspension, braking, and acceleration all feel mature. The sporty positioning is clear—you feel connected to the car while driving. I particularly liked the steering, which is responsive without being twitchy. On the tech side, the infotainment is top-notch. It responds quickly, the graphics are smooth, and the voice commands are quite accurate. I tested the driver-assist functions, and they handled city traffic well. Comfort is the weakest point, especially the seat ergonomics, but for me it wasn’t a deal-breaker. Overall, this car makes me optimistic about Xiaomi’s future in the EV space. If this is their first attempt, the next models will be even better.

  8. Family

As a family driver, practicality matters a lot to me, and the Xiaomi SU7 does a great job here. The dual trunk design is a blessing when you have kids—one for groceries, one for strollers. The cabin also has plenty of small spaces to stash bottles, toys, and chargers. On the road, the car feels sporty yet safe, which is the balance I was hoping for. My kids loved the large screen interface; it was easy to play music and navigate. The smart features also make daily life easier, like unlocking the car with my Xiaomi phone and syncing home appliances. Yes, the seats could be more comfortable, especially for longer drives, but overall, as a family EV it ticks many boxes. It’s exciting to see Xiaomi stepping into this market with something so polished.

Xiaomi SU7 delivers a sporty yet practical drive. The chassis is well-tuned, providing agility and stability. Tech-wise, it’s nearly perfect; voice commands are intuitive, and assisted driving is reliable. The storage is plentiful, with clever compartments everywhere. The seats are the main letdown—they lack support and comfort. But if Xiaomi refines this, future models will be unbeatable. Great job for a first car!

I’m loving my SU7! The mechanical quality is superb—smooth ride, precise handling. The tech features are intuitive; voice control works well, and assisted driving is a bonus. Storage is cleverly integrated, making the cabin functional. The seats are the only downside; they’re not comfortable for long journeys. But overall, Xiaomi has done an amazing job. I’m excited to see how they improve with the SU8.

I tested the Xiaomi SU7 because I was curious about how a tech company would approach building cars. The result is surprisingly refined. The mechanical side feels solid—the chassis tuning, braking, and acceleration all show effort. But where it truly shines is the tech. The infotainment system is smooth, fast, and feels more advanced than most EVs in the same range. I liked the smart assistant for navigation and entertainment; it really feels like an extension of my phone. Storage is generous, which I didn’t expect from such a sporty-looking car. Of course, the seats are not perfect, but I see that as a fixable issue in future updates. For the price and the ecosystem integration, this car is a strong competitor. I’d recommend it to anyone who values tech and driving feel together.

The Xiaomi SU7 feels like a statement car—it shows Xiaomi is serious about entering the EV market. I loved the design; it’s sleek and sporty but still practical for everyday use. Driving it felt natural, with smooth acceleration and confident handling. The chassis is probably my favorite part, because it feels stable at high speeds yet agile in the city. Tech integration is impressive; I could connect my phone instantly, and the smart home sync was a unique touch. My only issue is seat comfort—after about an hour, I found myself adjusting a lot. But to be fair, I’ve had the same issue with some luxury EVs too. Overall, it’s a stylish, capable car with excellent features. If Xiaomi fixes the comfort part, it could easily challenge more established brands.

I’ve driven many EVs, and what sets the Xiaomi SU7 apart is its balance between affordability and advanced features. The car feels premium without the premium price tag. The infotainment system is easily one of the best I’ve seen—fast, visually clear, and packed with useful apps. Driving is enjoyable thanks to the tuned chassis; Xiaomi clearly studied the competition. Storage capacity is another win, making it practical for both daily use and road trips. Yes, the seats could be improved, but in every other aspect the car over-delivers. For a first attempt, this is impressive. I believe Xiaomi’s experience in consumer electronics gave them an edge in smart features, and it shows. This EV will definitely put pressure on other automakers to step up their game.
